COVID-19 UPDATE

 

STOP THE HESITATION AND EXPEDITE THE VACCINATION!

 

UFCW Locals 1262 and 464A have been working nonstop to get our members access to the COVID-19 vaccine.  To date, we have contacted numerous elected officials, including the Governors of New Jersey and New York, our State Senators and, through our International, members of the Biden Administration.  We have also had detailed dialogue with the heads of the State Federations of Labor.  In all candor, everyone we have spoken with has the highest admiration and praise for all of our Brothers and Sisters, and respect the amazing job they are doing daily at great personal risk to keep the food chain flowing.  Everyone also recognized that we, as Essential Workers, must be protected by receiving the vaccine as soon as humanly possible.

 

The problems we are encountering in delays are two-fold.  First, there are not enough vaccine dispensing sites; and second, there is not enough vaccine to satisfy our current needs. Both Local Unions volunteered the use of their halls as dispensing sites, which to date has not been approved.  We are now seeing additional dispensing sites, including pharmacies and the use of military medical personnel along with the purchase of hundreds of millions of doses of vaccine.  

 

Presidents Whille and Niccollai will not rest until all members who seek the vaccine have had their needs met.  We are proud to represent the heroes who unselfishly risk their health and lives to keep America fed.
