AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT JOHN T. NICCOLLAI - THURSDAY, APRIL 11, 2019

UPDATE ON STOP & SHOP CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS IN NEW ENGLAND

President Niccollai reported today, Thursday, April 11th, 2019, that negotiations broke off between the five New England Local Unions and the Stop & Shop Company. Presently, a strike exists in New England involving 31,000 of our Brothers and Sisters employed in over 250 Stop & Shop Supermarkets.

Based upon our contract language with the Stop & Shop Company, no member can be terminated or disciplined if they refuse to cross a primary picket line erected at their worksite. All of our Stop & Shop Brothers & Sisters have a right not to cross any primary picket line erected by the New England Locals at their place of employment.

Obviously, Local 464A members are concerned about the New England strike and, beyond, what issues precipitated it. Members should be aware that the Company is seeking to substantially reduce coverage under the medical plan and implement more costly co-pays for both full and part-time members. Concurrently, there is a refusal on the part of the Company to properly fund existing pension programs. Other significant issues revolve around Sunday premium pay and the establishment of substantially lesser health care, pensions, wages, and emoluments for new hires. In a nut shell, our contracts are being gutted and our members are being exploited.

Please remember that if Stop & Shop is successful in New England, their unconscionable behavior will be thrust upon us in our next round of negotiations.
